Domaine des Allegrets, Sauvignon, 2012, Peploes

Allegretes

This is a very popular wine on Restaurant Cartes throughout Dublin and we enjoyed this always reliable specimen at dinner with Melanie & Richard in Peploes.

I thought it a bit pricey at €26 on the list but I guess we’re paying for the silver service and napery. I seem to recall their Merlot is nice too.

A wine importer descripes the Domaine thus:

“Housed in the village of Villeneuve de Duras in the Cotes-de-Duras, situated in the south-west between the Garonne and the Dordogne. An area known for its dry and sweet whites and reds (Sauvignon, Semillion, Rose and Cab style reds). The family Blanchard has been in the area for some 500 hundred years and the Domaine is now run by the fifth generation of winemakers, the young and enthusiastic Julien Blanchard, and his parents Francis and Monique. It is well known for its Sauvignon Blanc and Red wines and is often cited at the highest level by the highly respected Guide Hachette”
