Bodegas Borsao Campo Castillo Macabeo, Campo de Borja, Spain

A refreshing white: fresh, fragrant and delicate with a hint of Peach.

€23 in Tribes where we had a pleasant meal with Liz and Brian on their last night in Dublin.

Macabeo (Viura in Rioja where this is from) is a late budding white wine grape used on either side of the Pyrenees, in the north and east of Spain and the furthest southern reaches of France.

The Bodegas Borsao winery near Zaragoza is noted for its Grenache and is a pet favourite of Robert Parker.

Marques del Turia Viura Sauvignon 2012

20130830-223656.jpg Very pale colour. Tart. Unremarkable with nothing distinctive on offer I thought, though Greg enjoyed it.

Blend of 80% Viura (also known as Macabeu (Catalan) / Macabeo which is the white grape of Rioja and widely used in the production of Cava) and 20% Sauvignon.
20130830-223723.jpg€24 in Bloom – I would have expected more given the credentials of the Winery. Good lunch special: spicy leek Bangers & Mash for Ian & Louis; a salad for Greg.
